Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is this Thursday. I know it’s still mid February, but my mind is heading towards the springtime and flowers.  Valentine’s Day, when many of us will be thinking flowers for gifts, is a good time to start planning some preschool flower gardens.

Growing flowers on the natural preschool playground is a wonderful activity for young children.  Having the chance to plant and take care of the flowers and then watch as they bloom and add beautiful colors to your naturescape presents a great opportunity for young children to learn many things.  For example, children learn about science concepts such as life cycles and how roots grow down and leaves grow towards the sun, social emotional skills while learning how to nurture the plants, math skills while counting seeds and measuring the heights of stems, and literacy skills while using new words to describe observations.  This spring, consider encouraging preschool natural play with a flower garden on your playground.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

From, The Adventurous Child Team

We strive to create fun and informative content that will help young children learn and grow. However, it's important to keep in mind that all activities should be performed under the supervision of an adult. The Adventurous Child website is intended to serve as a reference and guidance for educational activities, and it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent, guardian, and/or educator to determine the appropriateness of the activity for their child’s age and maturity level. Thank you for your understanding and support!
