The holiday season is meant to be a time of joy, but for many families, it also comes with increased challenges. With SNAP benefits currently on hold and funding cuts affecting childcare programs, thousands of households are facing difficult decisions about how to provide for their children.
At The Adventurous Child, we believe no child should ever go hungry, and no family should have to worry about basic necessities. That’s why we’ve put together a list of organizations and resources offering essential support to families during this challenging season.
Food Assistance for Families
Cincinnati and the Tri-State Area
Cincinnati Public Schools has created a comprehensive list and interactive map of local food pantries actively providing support. Families in need can find nearby pantries and learn more about available resources here.
Nationwide Resources
For families outside the Tri-State area, Feeding America has expanded its efforts to ensure children and families continue receiving meals during this difficult time. Use their Food Bank Locator to find support near you.
Coats and Winter Apparel
With cooler weather approaching, warm clothing is essential. One Warm Coat is a national charity that collects and donates coats and other winter-appropriate items to those in need. Find an operating center near you and learn how to donate or receive assistance here.
Other Essential Items
Many families need more than just food and clothing. Everyday essentials such as diapers, hygiene products, formula, school supplies, and toys can be difficult to access during challenging times.
National Diaper Bank Network partners with organizations across the U.S. to provide diapers, hygiene products, and formula.
United Way 2-1-1 can connect families with local resources for baby care items, school supplies, toys, and more. Visit their website or dial 2-1-1 to speak with a specialist.
How You Can Help
Supporting families during the holiday season doesn’t have to be complicated. You can:
- Donate food, clothing, or essential items to local organizations.
- Volunteer your time at a food pantry or shelter.
- Spread the word to help families discover available resources.
Every small act of kindness helps make a difference. Together, we can ensure that children and families have the support they need to thrive, even during challenging times.
At The Adventurous Child, we’re committed to supporting children and families both on and off the playground. This holiday season, let’s come together to provide food, warmth, and hope to those who need it most.
We strive to create fun and informative content that will help young children learn and grow. However, it's important to keep in mind that all activities should be performed under the supervision of an adult. The Adventurous Child website is intended to serve as a reference and guidance for educational activities, and it is ultimately the responsibility of the parent, guardian, and/or educator to determine the appropriateness of the activity for their child’s age and maturity level. Thank you for your understanding and support!
